Product Description

PiperION Anion Exchange Membranes offer high ionic conductivity andchemical stability for alkaline and acidic applications, including fuel cells andelectrolyzers. Made from pure functionalized poly(aryl piperidinium) resin, theyare easy to convert for specific needs and deliver outstanding performance inultra-thin formats. Choose self-supporting for maximum conductivity orreinforced for added mechanical strength.

General Pretreatment Steps

PiperION membranes are supplied in bicarbonate form and usually need conversion before use in most electrochemicaldevices.PiperION-Anion-Exchange-Membrane.pdf

Alkaline Fuel Cell/Electrolyzer Usage (OH- form)

  • Leave the membrane uncovered at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Immerse in 0.5 M NaOH or KOH at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Replace with fresh NaOH/KOH solution and soak for 1 more hour.
  • Rinse with deionized water (pH 7) before assembling into your device.PiperION-Anion-Exchange-Membrane.pdf
  • After conversion to OH- form, avoid exposing the membrane to air, since CO₂ can change it back to bicarbonate form; for best results, convert and handle in a CO₂-free drybox/file:28.

Bicarbonate/Carbonate Applications (CO₂ Electrolysis)

  • If using bicarbonate electrolytes, use the membrane as received—no extra pretreatment required.PiperION-Anion-Exchange-Membrane.pdf
  • For carbonate form: soak in 0.1–0.5 M sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate for 12 h at room temperature, replace solution andsoak again for 12 h, repeat 2–3 times, and rinse before use.PiperION-Anion-Exchange-Membrane.pdf

Chloride/Sulfate or Other Anion Applications

  • Immerse in 0.1–0.5 M NaCl, KCl, Na₂SO₄, or K₂SO₄ solution for 12–24 h at room temperature.
  • Repeat 2–3 times for complete ionic conversion, then rinse with deionized water before use.PiperION-Anion-Exchange-Membrane.pdf

Usage Details

  • Always match the pretreatment to your specific electrolyte and application.
  • Prior to device assembly, ensure the membrane is in the correct ionic form for optimal performance and stability.PiperION-Anion-
