Product Descriptions
Sustainion B22-50 Grade T – Alkaline Anion Exchange Membrane (20 cm × 28 cm) – Sustainion B22-50 Grade T is a PTFE-reinforced anion exchange membrane engineered forapplications that require high mechanical stability and reduced swelling. The integrated PTFEsupport layer provides excellent strength, easier handling, and improved dimensional stabilitycompared to unsupported membranes such as the X37 series. This design also minimizesswelling and reduces metal crossover during operation. The membrane functions in alkaline environments using a supporting electrolyte and iscompatible with both aqueous systems and selected non-aqueous solvents like propylenecarbonate. Its durability and ionic conductivity make it suitable for flow batteries and a variety ofelectrochemical processes.
Additional Information :
Ion Form & Activation
The membrane is supplied dry with chloride (Cl⁻) as the counter-ion.
For applications requiring hydroxide (OH⁻) conduction, the membrane must be converted to the hydroxide form.
Recommended activation procedure:
Soak the membrane in a large bath of 1 M KOH for 24 hours. This step ensures complete ion exchange and enhances mechanical strength through additional crosslinking, as supported by recent NMR findings. The mechanical reinforcement uses ePTFE (expanded PTFE) to provide extra stability for demanding operating conditions.
